Sultanpur: The Congress party staged a protest outside the District Magistrate’s office in Sultanpur, raising concerns over the alarming number of deaths reported during the ongoing Mahakumbh. The protest, led by prominent Congress leader Amol Vajpayee, saw a large gathering of party workers expressing their outrage against the Yogi government’s alleged negligence in managing the event.
Congress activists, holding placards and shouting slogans, highlighted the inadequate arrangements and the lack of proper facilities that they claim led to the unfortunate incidents. A memorandum addressing the government’s lapses was submitted to SDM Sadar Vipin Dwivedi during the demonstration.
Speaking at the protest, Amol Vajpayee stated, “We are all connected to Sanatan Dharma, and it is disheartening to see how the BJP is using religious sentiments for mere political gains. The government’s carelessness has cost innocent lives, and we demand accountability.”
The protestors voiced strong disapproval of what they termed the BJP’s “superficial politics,” accusing the ruling party of prioritizing optics over effective governance. The gathering remained peaceful, though marked by visible frustration and anger among the Congress workers.
Local authorities assured the demonstrators that their concerns would be conveyed to the higher administration, and a thorough investigation into the Mahakumbh management would be considered.
